Cases

Successful ideas in 10-minute presentations

Presentations

The case presentation sessions aim to disseminate strategies for product development, distribution and format ideation, as well as how the editorial niches of the most successful journalistic initiatives in the Brazilian and Latin American digital markets were designed. Sharing these stages of journalistic work strengthens the public’s understanding of innovation in the sector.

The intention is for the journalists and communicators behind these projects to deliver inspiring, dynamic presentations and be available for networking afterward. You can prepare four or five slides to be presented in a maximum of 10 minutes. Please send the final version of your presentation to producao@cardapiodeideias.com.br by 30 May. If you do not have a presentation, please send us an image file containing your organization’s logo.

Time division - 10 minutes

Up to 10 minutes in total to present the case

Free time depending on the guest’s availability, in the audience, for networking.

Duration

Case sessions last an average of 30 to 40 minutes. This time is divided into up to 4 scheduled presentations from 4 different professionals, each lasting 10 minutes. Please do not exceed 10 minutes, so as not to affect other presentations.

Questions

As the format foresees presentations followed by several guests, the audience can approach the presenters as they leave the stage to ask questions only when the presentation has ended.

Also feel free to make your contact details available at the end of the presentations, in case anyone would like to continue the conversation about the topic.

Tips for your presentation

1. In 10 minutes, the story of an entire life cannot be told. Focus on the simplicity of what your audience wants to hear, and what they should hear. Try writing a draft with the main idea of your presentation in up to 140 characters. This will help you stay on track.

2. Put your face (and heart) into the presentation. Personal experiences help develop empathy and connection with the public.

3. The first minute of your presentation is crucial. Tell us directly about your “why”, your purpose and the purpose of your project. Remember this phrase:“Why do you do what you do?”

4. Draft, with bullet points, what the journey of your presentation will be. It is important that the public is able to understand the beginning, middle and end of your exhibition.

5. Your psychological preparation is also important. Before going on stage, think of phrases like “It’s going to be great!”, “I’m really excited!”, or any other phrase that makes you happy.

6. Don’t despair: unforeseen events happen. You might forget a word, something might fall out, there might be some technical difficulty. Breathe, and have fun!

Data/Dialogues & Trends

The purpose of “Data & Trends” is to share accumulated knowledge about the field of journalism through research, whether carried out by researchers linked to universities, consultancies, civil society organizations or journalistic organizations. The “Dialogues & Trends” have the same objective, but based on a dialogical dynamic between two people with knowledge and experience on a common theme.

Presentation

If you are planning to present slides, please send the final version of your material to producao@cardapiodeideias.com.br by 30 May. We recommend creating a presentation to help you manage your speech and time more effectively. Include a QR code with the link to the study/research you will present (learn how to create a QR code for free here – or, if you need help, don’t hesitate to write to us). At the end of the workshop, include your contact details in the presentation, such as email address and professional social media accounts. If you do not wish to present slides, we recommend using the logo of the organization you represent on the screen behind you. To do this, send an email with the logo attached to producao@cardapiodeideias.com.br by 30 May.

Duration

The “Data and Trends” sessions last 20 minutes. In cases where there is more than one speaker, this time must be shared between the two people invited (10 minutes each).

The “Dialogues and Trends” sessions last 40 minutes. This format is intended to be more fluid, so we recommend that the speakers welcome comments and reactions from the audience.

Questions

Data and Trends: as these are more objective sessions, we recommend that questions are asked in the last 5 minutes of the activity.

Dialogues and Trends: we suggest that questions and/or comments be made in the last 10 minutes of the meeting, although the speakers can welcome the audience during the dynamics of the conversation.

IMPORTANT:

It’s interesting to let the audience know about the moments reserved for interaction. In addition, we recommend that you provide your contact details (e.g. email and/or social media profile) at the end of the presentation, so that people interested in continuing the conversation on the topic know how to contact you.

Panels

In this format, the moderator introduces the topic and then briefly introduces each of the participants. They then start a dialog with the participants, with questions, comments or provocations on the topic, so that everyone can speak and take turns speaking. We will send out e-mails introducing the participants of the tables and their moderators, so that they can talk before the event.

Presentations

We ask that guests who intend to present slides send the final version of the material to producao@cardapiodeideias.com.br until 30 May.

It’s important to know that the panels are broadcast via YouTube. It is essential that speakers and mediators always speak into the microphone. The mediator must also ensure that questions and comments from the audience are made into the microphone. If any questions are sent via chat, the support team will be responsible for bringing them to the mediator.

After the speakers’ presentations, the support team will provide microphones for the audience to ask questions. People interested in asking questions will have 1 minute to speak. As the panels will be broadcast live, if there are questions sent via YouTube chat, they will be read by the session moderator.

Workshops

Activities to share knowledge in a practical way

Presentations

If you intend to present slides, please send the final version to producao@cardapiodeideias.com.br by 30 May. We recommend that you create a presentation for better control of speech and timing. If you don’t want to present slides, we recommend that you use your organization’s logo projected on the screen behind you. To do this, simply send an e-mail with the logo attached to producao@cardapiodeideias.com.br by the same deadline: 30 May.

Duration, format and support

The workshop should last up to 2 hours. The format of each workshop will be defined individually by the workshop leader. Ajor and Cardápio de Ideias, the co-organizer of the 3i Festival, are available to support this definition. As a basic principle, the workshop should offer participants a deeper insight into the proposed topic, in a practical and interactive way – through dynamics or group activities – sharing resources and knowledge that can be safely applied in everyday life. More generally, the workshop space will provide more knowledge on the subject in question based on reflections and practical insights.
